How to play FreeCell Solitaire
FreeCell Solitaire is an open-card solitaire where every card is visible from the start. Use four free cells and smart sequencing to move all 52 cards to the foundations from Ace to King by suit.
How to play
Read the table
Eight tableau columns are dealt face up. The first four have 7 cards, the last four have 6. Four free cells sit at top-left and four foundations at top-right.
Build down, alternating colors
On the tableau, stack cards in descending order with alternating red and black (e.g. red 6 on black 7). Only the top card of a column is directly movable.
Park cards in free cells
Each free cell holds exactly one card. Use them to temporarily hold cards while you reorganize a column.
Move sequences when there's room
A multi-card sequence can be moved only when you have enough empty free cells and empty columns to shift it card-by-card behind the scenes.
Build the foundations
Send Aces to the foundations, then build each suit upward from Ace to King. Move all 52 cards to win.
Tips
- Keep free cells open whenever possible. A full free cell removes your flexibility.
- Empty tableau columns are very powerful; use them to move longer sequences.
- Send Aces and 2s to the foundations early; they almost never block play.
- Avoid filling every free cell unless it creates a clear path to a real win.
- Think a few moves ahead before moving Kings or breaking up long sequences.
About FreeCell Solitaire
FreeCell Solitaire on 100 Daily Games is a polished, free, browser-based version of the classic FreeCell card game. Every card is dealt face up across eight tableau columns, with four free cells for temporary storage and four foundations to build up by suit from Ace to King.
Unlike Klondike, FreeCell rewards planning over luck. Almost every shuffled deal is solvable with careful play, which makes it a favorite for puzzle solvers who want a true challenge with no hidden information. The four free cells let you park individual cards while you reorganize columns, and the supermove rule means longer sequences become possible as you create empty cells and columns.
FreeCell lives inside 100 Daily Games alongside Classic Solitaire, Spider Solitaire, Mahjong Garden, Block Boom, and other timeless casual games reimagined for the modern browser. Play a fresh daily deal, chase a faster best time, or shuffle a random hand whenever you want a quick brain workout.
Frequently asked questions
How do you play FreeCell Solitaire?
Move all 52 cards to the four foundation piles, building each suit up from Ace to King. On the tableau, build sequences down by alternating red and black cards. Use the four free cells to temporarily hold single cards while you reorganize columns.
Is every FreeCell deal winnable?
Almost every FreeCell deal is solvable with careful play. A famous result is that of the original Microsoft FreeCell numbered deals, all but a tiny handful can be won. That's why FreeCell rewards planning more than luck.
How does the multi-card move rule work?
FreeCell only lets you physically move one card at a time, but the game can shortcut a sequence move when you have enough empty free cells and empty columns to legally shift it card-by-card. The maximum sequence size is (1 + empty free cells) × 2^(empty tableau columns).
Can I undo a move?
Yes. Use the undo button to step back if you make a mistake or want to try a different line of play.
Is FreeCell Solitaire free?
Yes. FreeCell Solitaire is completely free to play in your browser on 100 Daily Games. No download, no account, no interruptions.
